Substance use

The YFS SHIFT program works with young people who feel like their substance use is getting out of control, affecting relationships, impacting how they feel physically or mentally, or preventing them from achieving what they want out of life.

We help young people to identify goals and develop a plan to lead healthy independent lives.

How we can help

SHIFT services are tailored to you. SHIFT understands that it is your right to choose to work with us and make changes.

When we first meet we like to find out about your substance use, what is going on for you and what your biggest concern is. Together we will develop a plan to work out what your needs are and what you want to achieve. This can include help with continuing at school or finding a job, finding somewhere to live, sorting out legal issues or other goals you identify. We will work out which things are a priority and put actions in place to address them. We can also work with families or other important people so that you have the best opportunity to succeed at making the changes you want.

Our partner service is the Mater Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service – ADAWS for short. If you want to participate in ADAWS programs we can also help to arrange this and make the process as easy as possible. ADAWS offers an 11 day residential detox, day programs and Area 40 drop-in space.

 Who is eligible
