अवलोकन

Assessment and Service Connect (ASC) supports families who are in the Intake and Assessment stage with Child Safety to access the help and information they need to keep children safe and at home wherever possible.

ASC helps your family to understand what’s happening, identify your strengths and needs, and connect you with the right services at the right time. Our goal is to strengthen your family’s ability to care for and protect your children and reduce the likelihood of further involvement with the child protection system. Support is voluntary and free.

We can help you access supports including but not limited to:

  • YFS housing, youth, legal, family support and financial counselling services
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support services
  • psychologists and counsellors
  • general support including schools, health services, housing and disability.

We work with you to understand what’s impacting your family, what’s working well, and what support might help strengthen safety and wellbeing.

Assessment and Service Connect is a referral only service; you cannot self-refer.

Support is available in person or by phone

What to expect

Once we receive a referral for your family, we will arrange a time to visit.

Support is available in person through outreach in homes, in the community, and at places where families feel comfortable. We can also use a range of contact methods, depending on your family’s preferences.

On our first visit, we ask for your consent to be part of the program and discuss what supports your family might need. The initial visit is usually done together with Child Safety unless you are referred via Regional Intake Service (RIS).

If you consent, we will work alongside you to understand what is and isn’t working for you and your family, then connect you with services and supports that meet your family’s needs and build on your strengths.

We aim to be flexible and work around your schedule. Visits usually happen between 9am and 5pm, with some after-hours support available if needed.

Areas we support

This service supports people in the Beaudesert, Browns Plains, Beenleigh, Bayside (Capalaba), Loganlea and Logan Central Child Safety catchment areas.

Information for professionals & referrers

Assessment Service Connect is a referral only service.

Referrals are received from six Child Safety Service Centres (CSSCs) and from the South East Regional Intake Service (SE RIS) (Department of Family, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety (DFSDSCS)).

Child Safety makes an initial determination of a family’s suitability for an ASC response, and then emails the referral to the YFS ASC Program Manager and team: [email protected]

“I felt supported and listened to.”
