Functional Family Therapy – Child Welfare (FFT-CW)

Functional Family Therapy – Child Welfare (FFT-CW) supports families with children (18 and under), who are at risk of entering or re-entering the child protection system.

We work with families in the Browns Plains or Beaudesert Child Safety Service Centre catchment areas.

We help you and your family solve current problems while developing skills and confidence to tackle future issues.

Over four to seven months, our highly trained therapists support you to develop strategies that assist your family to function in a more positive and respectful way.

We break down complex problems into manageable stages and create and achieve goals tailored to your family’s unique challenges, diverse qualities, and strengths.

After you contact or are referred to FFT-CW, a member of our team will get in touch within 24 business hours for an initial conversation.

This first step is a chance for us to learn more about you and your family’s situation and to determine whether we are the right service to support your family. If we’re not, we will do our best to help connect you with appropriate support.

We provide weekly, face-to-face FFT-CW sessions with your whole family, over a period of four to seven months.

Each session is usually held at your home and runs for about one hour. We do our best to see you at a time that’s convenient for your family and can deliver sessions up until 7.30pm Monday to Friday.

FFT-CW accepts referrals from Family and Child Connect services, Child Safety and other government and non-government agencies.

You can also use the Family and Child Connect online referral form. Please note, referrals are received via the YFS IFS team – so please note in the referral that the family would benefit from FFT-CW.

Families will be contacted by the FFT-CW team within 24 business hours of the referral acceptance.

Functional Family Therapy – Child Welfare is funded by the Queensland Government, Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety (DFSDSCS).
