Kituo cha 33 is a YFS social enterprise initiative based in Logan. It connects people with hands-on opportunities to build skills, gain experience, and move towards employment.
It began with recycling electronic waste and has grown into a community-focused space where people can volunteer, learn new skills, and contribute to real projects.
Substation33 brings together a wide range of activities, including recycling, IT, construction, manufacturing, and environmental initiatives. Across these areas are work environments like Canstation, part of Substation33’s Containers for Change operations where large volumes of containers are sorted each day.
Paid employment opportunities exist across Substation33, alongside volunteering and training pathways. People can get involved in different ways, from day-to-day projects through to structured programs.
Our Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs include:
- Build IT – a 22-week construction program where participants build an off-grid tiny home while working towards a Certificate I in Construction
- Refurb IT – a 21-week IT program focused on repairing and refurbishing technology while building practical digital skills and working towards a Certificate I in Workplace Skills
- Drive IT – a 12-week program combining professional driving lessons, work readiness and vocational training
These programs support young people to build confidence, gain experience and move into training or employment.
Substation33 is also known for innovation. Projects like PowerWells and flooded road warning signs bring together practical skills and real-world problem solving, creating opportunities for people to learn while contributing to community and environmental solutions.
Substation33 remains closely connected to the local community. Community members can drop off unwanted electronics for safe recycling, helping reduce waste while supporting local skill-building and employment pathways.
