Overview

The Responsible Men service prioritises the safety of women and children by engaging men aged 18 and over, living in Logan, to own and change violent or controlling behaviour.

In weekly, two-hour sessions, you will explore the attitudes and beliefs that lead to harmful behaviours and explore positive changes for yourself, your family and your relationship.

Over the course of 16 to 22 weeks, our Behaviour Change Specialists work with you to:

  • take responsibility for your behaviour and stop all violence
  • understand the impact violence and abuse has on women and children
  • reflect on controlling beliefs and stop using controlling behaviours in your relationships
  • maintain safe, respectful, non-violent behaviours in relationships.

We also support partners and ex-partners of Responsible Men program participants through our Women’s Advocates.

Responsible Fathers

If you are a father or male role model and you can provide evidence that you have completed 32 hours of an approved behaviour change program, like Responsible Men, you may be eligible for our Responsible Fathers program: an evidence-based intervention program that supports fathers to change violent behaviours.

What to expect

After you contact or are referred to Responsible Men, we will arrange an assessment appointment with one of our behaviour change facilitators to assess whether the program is right for you.

We offer weekly group sessions at our Rowan St office at a range of times to ensure there’s one that suits.

Each session is two hours long, and services are provided for approximately 20-26 weeks inclusive of intake, assessment, orientation, and group work.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court support

A Behaviour Change Intervention team staff member attends Beenleigh Magistrates Court Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 12pm.
If you have been charged with a domestic violence offence, they can:

  • provide you with information regarding court processes
  • liaise with court staff on your behalf
  • communicate with duty solicitors and police prosecutors
  • provide you with information and links to relevant behavioural change services
  • link you to health, parenting, financial, legal, housing and homelessness and/or counselling services.

Responsible Men Evaluation Summary (August 2024)
No one in that room is judged, we’re all there for a reason so it’s good to know that a lot of us feel safe enough to express the problems that we’ve had and we then go, “Hey man, don’t do this, don’t do what I did.”
