If you are aged 16 or over and homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, our Centre-based Response Service team or Homelessness Outreach team can refer you to the Immediate Housing Response (IHR) team.
IHR can help you find short-term temporary accommodation quickly, including brief hotel/motel stays. We will also assist you with paperwork, help you access income and other supports, and connect you with services based on your needs.
Once you are in temporary accommodation, we will support you to search for and secure alternative, safe and stable accommodation or long-term housing and refer you to programs that will work with you to build the skills you need to maintain your tenancy.
You can’t refer yourself directly to our Immediate Housing Response service. Referrals are made through other YFS services.
Support is provided in person and over the phone. If you are staying in temporary accommodation, we may also meet with you there.
Our office is located at 376 Kingston Rd. Our friendly receptionists can direct you to the Immediate Housing Response team.
If you’re taking public transport, our office is a two-minute walk from the Kingston Road and Market Square bus stop. You can use the Translink website to plan your trip.
Visitor parking is also available.
If our Centre-based Response Service or Homelessness Outreach team refer you to Immediate Housing Response, we will work with you to find short-term accommodation as quickly as possible.
We will consider your needs when arranging accommodation, including pets where possible. However, pet-friendly options may be limited, and we can talk through other options with you if needed.
We can also help you access essential items and services, such as medication, hygiene products, childcare, or mental health support.
We will also support you to prepare for longer-term housing.
You will need identification to check into accommodation. If you don’t have ID, we can support you to obtain or replace it where possible.
Please note, we may not be able to offer support if:

Immediate Housing Response supports people aged 16 and over who are eligible for social housing and experiencing, or at immediate risk of homelessness. This includes people who are sleeping rough, staying in cars or tents, or in unsafe accommodation, as well as those at risk of homelessness within the next day.
IHR accepts referrals from the following YFS services:
Urgent requests should be directed to Centre-based Response Service, where they will be assessed.
People accessing Immediate Housing Response will need identification (ID) to check into accommodation. Where possible, we can support clients to obtain or replace identification as part of this process.
IHR is a short-term response and not a long-term housing solution.
Immediate Housing Response is funded by Queensland Government, Department of Housing and Public Works.
