Employment preparation

YFS ParentsNext is for Logan parents of young children. We help parents prepare for future employment and gain confidence, skills and knowledge so they are ready to join the workforce when your children start school.

YFS SPARK can light the way and connect you with opportunities to work, learn, volunteer or start your own small business.

How we can help

ParentsNext prepares parents for employment by helping with:

  • skills – basic skills like literacy, social skills, job-specific knowledge and job search know-how
  • confidence and motivation – helping parents feel positive about your prospects
  • stability and challenges – sorting out issues that make it hard to work.

Some people will find a job or start education or training while they are in ParentsNext; others will improve their readiness to do these things in the future.

We also welcome parents of young children who are on a Parenting Payment and want help getting ready for work but aren’t referred by Centrelink. If you think you would benefit, give us a call!

Who is eligible

YFS ParentsNext welcomes eligible parents from Logan.

Some parents will be referred by Centrelink as a condition of receiving Parenting Payment, which means they are required to attend appointments and undertake activities in their plan.

We also welcome parents of young children who want help getting ready for work but aren’t referred by Centrelink. If you think you would benefit, give us a call!

How we can help

‘Spark’ is an exciting new initiative for people in Logan public housing who want a brighter future.

We can light the way and connect you with opportunities to work, learn, volunteer or start your own small business.

We listen to your dreams, your goals and aspirations and then work with you to create a pathway to achieving them. Some of the things we can support you with or link you in with are:

  • job-specific knowledge and training as well as job search know-how
  • prospective employers and volunteering opportunities
  • business training, mentoring and support
  • confidence and motivation – helping you feel positive about your prospects
  • stability and challenges – sorting out issues that make it hard to work

Not everyone fits mainstream employment. Not everyone wants a job. So, regardless of your circumstances, we have an out-of-the-box approach to supporting you to live your best life.

Some people will find a job, create a business, begin volunteering or start a course while they are in the Spark Program; others will improve their readiness to do these things in the future.

Client story

Amy, 24, has faced many challenges in life. Finding a job was one of them. Centrelink referred Amy to YFS’ ParentsNext project. Within two weeks she started a Certificate I in Construction with Break Thru, three days a week, with paid work experience at Stoddart Manufacturing and Substation33.

“It has been an absolute joy.
I now have pretty much a straight routine and I’m happy with it,” she says.

How to use our services
