Nick’s story

“Substation has helped me get my life back on track. I’ve paid off a $16,000 SPER debt, I’m getting my driver’s licence back and I have a job for the first time in five years. My overall outlook has changed and I’m happy where I am now.”

Substation33 helps Nick get his life back on track

Nick first came to YFS as part of the Work for the Dole scheme. He loved the atmosphere and the people so much he kept coming back as a volunteer. When he found that volunteer hours at Substation33 can be used to pay off SPER debts Nick threw himself into working as many hours as possible. Now he is employed by Substation33 as a Supervisor on the Containers for Change project.

“Substation has helped me get my life back on track,” he says. “I’ve paid off a $16,000 SPER debt, I’m getting my driver’s licence back and I have a job for the first time in five years. My overall outlook has changed and I’m happy where I am now.”

Nick learned new skills while putting his old skills to good use, found new confidence, made new friends and is now supervising and mentoring other participants who come to work at Substation33. “The people here are really good and non-judgemental,” he says. “I would advise anyone to come down here and have a go.”
